JUNIUS, N.Y. (AP) — Police say a 3-year-old Amish boy has died after he was run over by a horse-drawn wagon being driven by his father on a central New York road.

The Seneca County Sheriff's Office tells local media outlets that Lester Schumucker and two older brothers were riding in the wagon as it traveled Wednesday afternoon on Route 318 in the rural town of Junius, midway between Rochester and Syracuse.

Deputies say Lester jumped from the moving wagon and was trying to get back on when he was run over by a wheel of an attached trailer that was carrying livestock.

The boy was taken to Geneva General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Deputies say the accident occurred near the Schumuckers' farm as the family moved livestock to another pasture.
