5 NY fallen firefighters among those honored

WEBSTER, N.Y. (AP) — Five firefighters from New York have been added to the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Emmitsburg, Md.

An annual memorial service was held Sunday at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, honoring 73 firefighters who died in the line of duty in 2012.

New York firefighters included Lt. Mike Chiapperini and Tomasz Kaczowka of the West Webster Fire Department near Rochester. They were fatally shot in an ambush at an arson fire on Christmas Eve 2012.

Also listed was Constable volunteer fireman Timothy Lamere, who collapsed at home after a training drill in August 2012. Also, Ronald Keddie, who collapsed with a medical issue at the fire station in Sheridan, and Lt. Rich Nappi, who died fighting a warehouse fire in New York City in April 2012.
