NEW YORK (AP) — Police say an elderly New York City man was struck and killed by cars while crossing a busy avenue.
Police officials say 76-year-old Antonio Escanio was struck just before 6 p.m. Friday crossing Amsterdam Avenue in upper Manhattan. He was rushed to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital with head trauma where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators believe Escanio was crossing Amsterdam between West 155th Street and West 156th Street when he was hit by a SUV traveling south on Amsterdam Avenue. They say he then fell into the northbound side of the avenue and was struck by another car.
Police say both drivers remained at the scene. It wasn't immediately clear if he was crossing with or against the light.
