Lovers of the visual arts should mark June 7 on their calendars. The Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo will sponsor their 12th annual ‘‘Art Alive: A Walking-Talking Art Contest,’’ in Buffalo’s Delaware Park. Hours are noon to 2 p.m.
The event typically attracts dozens of contestants and thousands of spectators, who gather to learn about art, relax and enjoy the fun as contestants strive for more than a thousand dollars in prizes.
Contestants create a living representation of their favorite work of art. Typically an entry may include people, props, scenic materials and even music. Entrants range from elementary and high schools students to business people to family groups, and beyond. For more information, phone 270-8292 or go to www.albrightknox.org.
The city of Toronto has invited the public to an annual multidisciplinary celebration of the arts, including theatre, dance, music, film, literature, visual arts, design and more. Called ‘‘Luminato,’’ this year’s event will take place June 6 to 15.
All over Toronto, but prominently featuring the square at the intersection of Yonge and Dundas streets, the festival will present literally hundreds of events, from Shakespearean plays to arts museum installations to dance performances to concerts of music, ranging from classical to contemporary jazz, and much, much more.
