NEW YORK (AP) — Police in New York City say officers have shot and killed an armed man suspected of robbing a pharmacy on Manhattan's Upper East Side.
The shooting occurred around 2 p.m. Friday beneath an underpass of the FDR Drive at 96th Street.
Police say a preliminary investigation shows the unidentified man was alone in a car that got stuck in traffic.
Four officers in two patrol cars descended upon him following the robbery.
Police say the suspect brandished a handgun but it does not appear he fired it.
He was in the car when he was shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police couldn't say how many shots were fired.
Four officers were being treated for ringing in their ears.
