Excitement continues to build in Chautauqua County as the Olympic games in Beijing get closer.
One of our own - Fredonia native Jennifer Stuczynski - will be going for the gold in the pole vault after qualifying for the Olympic games in championship fashion. While competing at the trials in Eugene, Ore., Stuczynski broke her own American record, clearing 16 feet, 1 3/4 inches. Community members here watched her triumph on television and cheered.
Now residents in northern Chautauqua County continue to rally around our local hero and her family. Lawn signs are available for purchase at a number of area stores with proceeds from the sales benefiting the family for their trip to see Jenn compete in China.
Stuczynski is only the second county resident to ever reach the Olympics. Even before competing on a world level in two weeks, she is a winner in Western New York and the United States.
