At 4:46 p.m. Friday the Dunkirk Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at 722 Main Street in the city of Dunkirk. Upon arrival, firefighters located a fire in the basement of the two-family home which had extended up a wall into the upper levels. According to a report issued by Captain Allen Loeb, the primary fire attack was initiated using a 1 and 3/4-inch line with a secondary line to extinguish fire extensions on the upper floors. All levels of the building were searched for occupants and fire extensions. Fortunately, all family members had escaped the fire safely and without injury, Loeb indicated. Fire damage was contained to a small area of the basement with only minor extension to the first floor. Firefighters were on the scene for approximately an hour and a half. The incident is currently under investigation by the Dunkirk Police Department and Dunkirk Fire Department investigators.
