Gowanda edges FHS; DHS takes second at Falconer

A 3.1 mile race at Lake Erie State Park was a battle between the area's number one and number two ranked boys' cross country teams. Number one Gowanda edged out number two Fredonia 28-29. Frewsburg followed in third with 83 points and Sherman ran an incomplete team.

Gowanda finished first and second as Cliff Nielson won with a time of 17:33 and Kevin Brown crossed the line at 17:44.

Tom Conti was third for Fredonia with a time of 17:56. Fredonia's Peter Hert took fourth with a time of 17:58, and sixth was Hillbillie Matt Meredith at 18:09.

Other Notable finishes were: 7th Adam Stevs (G) 18:17, 8th Christian Igielinski (G) 18:17, 9th Josh Szukala (F) 18:32, 10th Alex Wills (F) 18:34, 11th Alex Crise (F) 18:36, 12th Matt Manaino (F) 18:42, 13th Brendan Omicioli (G) 18:49.

Fredonia dominated the girls' meet with 18 points. Sherman was second with 57, followed by Gowanda's 63 points and Frewsburg ran an incomplete race.

Jessica Swoyer came in first for Fredonia at 20:55, followed by her teammate Kait Marshall with a time of 20:57. Emily Stevs ran a third place race for Gowanda with a time of 21:04.

Other notable finishers: 4th Alyssa Conti (F) 21:06, 5th Danielle Vemago (F) 21:07, 6th Krissy Karlson (F) 21:09, 7th Karlene Slweski (F) 21:11, 8th Emily Wendell (F) 21:24, 15th Ashley McDonough (G) 23:16, 20th Kelcie Degenfelder (G) 24:06, 23th Kim Haller G 24:56, 28th Kourtney Tyler (G) 29:03, 32th Katelyn Bolyard (G) 33:12.

Gowanda Runs next Tuesday at Jamestown.

Boys: A-L 33, Dunkirk 38, Falconer 59

Girls: Falconer 22, A-L 33, Dunkirk (Inc.)

FALCONER - Dunkirk finished second Tuesday in Division 1 boys' cross country action at Breezewood Links Golf Course.

The Marauders were five points in back of Allegany-Limestone's 33 points while Falconer finished third with a score of 59.

Richard Allen of Falconer finished first with a time of 17:39 while the Marauders' Alex Gonzalez took second with a time of 17:54. Jake Elwel finished the 3.1 mile course in 18:25 to round out the top three.

Other finishers for Dunkirk were: Mike Waclawski (seventh, 18:39); Tim Pauszek (eighth, 18:52); Mike Burns (10th, 19:18); Jacob Jankowski (11th, 19:38); Justin Kozlowski (13th, 20:09) and Tom Warmbrodt (14th, 20:11)

Falconer's Katie Saff took first place in the girls' race with a time of 20:01 while teammate Shannon Murphy finished second with a time of 20:44. Lady Gator Megan Bischof took third with a time of 21:23.

The Lady Marauders finished incomplete behind Falconer (22) and Allegany-Limestone (33).

Alicia Palmatier finished in 13th place with a time of 26:42 while Amy Palmatier finished in 38:08, good enough for 17th. Also for Dunkirk, Tess Kepple took 18th place with a time of 38:09.

Boys: Jamestown 27, Maple Grove 28, Silver Creek 87, Olean (Inc.)

Girls: Jamestown 21, Maple Grove 35, Silver Creek inc, Olean (Inc.)

MAPLE GROVE - Jamestown took first with 27 points in a 3.1 mile cross country meet at Maple Grove. The host team was second with 28 points, Silver Creek was third with 87 points and Olean ran an incomplete race.

Savantuay Boyette of Jamestown was first with a time of 17:29. Maple Grove runners Jeff Rozler and Brendan Green took second and third respectively. Rozler's time was 17:40 and Green finished with a 18:29.

Other notable finishers: 14th Adam Parker (SC) 20:02, 20th Matt Rozewicz (SC) 21:25 , Sam Myers (SC) 22:15, Steven Mills (SC) 24:53, A.J. Simano (SC) 32:06.

In the girls' meet the Jamestown Red Raiders came won with 21 points, followed by Maple Grove's 35 points. Silver Creek and Olean ran incomplete races.

Red Raiders runners Erin Kling, Nicole Bochman and Brooke Tobias finished one, two, three. Kling broke the course record by two seconds with a time of 18:59. Bochman finished with a 20:13 while Tobias' time was 20:43.

Other notable finishers: Jordan Douglas (SC) 23:41, Heather Serio (SC) 24:54, Katelyn Plecker (SC) 30:01. Brianna Wolf (SC) 32:38.

Silver Creek's next race is the Southern Tier Invitational at Allegany- Limestone on Saturday.
