The OBSERVER

University of Pittsburgh at Bradford

The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford has announced its schedule of arts performances for the coming academic year:

n Oct. 22, hear recording artist and pianist George Winston. He invites audience members to bring contributions to area food pantries for collection at his concert. He will be contributing as well.

n Nov. 8, internationally known classical guitarist Sharon Isben will perform.

n Jan. 24, in celebration of the Martin Luther King Holiday, hear the Atlanta-based gospel trio D'Vine.

n March 24, the Russian National Ballet will perform the full-length ballet ''Sleeping Beauty,'' with musical score by Tchaikovsky.

n April 30, a touring company will perform the Broadway musical ''Bye, Bye, Birdie.''

All performances will take place in the beautiful and modern Bromeley Family Theater, located in Blaisdell Hall. Curtain time is 7:30 p.m.

Those who purchase tickets to both the Winston concert and Russian ballet will receive tickets to the Isben concert without additional charge.

This year, the university will also offer pre-performance buffet dinners in the Mukaiyama University Room of the Frame-Westerberg Commons.

For individual ticket prices and more information about the dinners, phone (814) 362-5113 between 11:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., Mondays through Fridays.

Beauty and the Beast

Through Nov. 30 in the second floor gallery at Alleyway Theatre in Buffalo, see a collection of paintings by Marc Duquette on the theme ''Beauty and the Beast.'' These are realist paintings of serious subjects, not celebrations of the cartoon film, nor the Broadway show with the same title.

The gallery is open before and during performances of the theater, which take place Thursdays and Fridays at 7:30 p.m., and Saturdays at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Consult the theater's Web site at alleyway.com or phone 852-2600.

Winks is compiled by Robert Plyler.
