The first of two public hearings seeking community input on the city of Dunkirk's 2009 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) will be held today at 5 p.m. in the city hall courtroom. A second hearing will be held Thursday at 5 p.m. at the Hose 4 Fire Station on Doughty Street.
According to the legal notices announcing the hearings, the two hearings give city residents, businesses and organizations an opportunity to discuss and suggest possible programs and projects that would benefit low- and moderate-income city residents. The city also is encouraging attendees to, "present their suggestions to the city of programs the city will select for approval."
Under the CDBG plan the city will, "fund housing and community development programs and projects in 2009 identified in the city's Consolidated Plan that will benefit low- and moderate-income city residents."
CDBG applications will be available in the Department of Development beginning Nov. 24 with technical assistance meetings to be scheduled, "throughout November to assist businesses and organizations in completing their FY 2009 CDBG proposal applications." Those applications are due Dec. 5 at noon and no late applications will be accepted.
The Department of Development is located in Suite 210 in the Stearns Building and can be reached at 366-9876.
