JAMESTOWN - Hospitalist Dr. Kamran Ahmed Karatela has joined the medical staff at WCA Hospital. As a Hospitalist, Dr. Karatela coordinates and provides in-hospital care at WCA Hospital.

Board certified in internal medicine and subspecialty in geriatric medicine, Dr. Karatela received his medical degree from Dow Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan. He completed his internal medicine residency at Robert Packer Hospital, Guthrie Health Care Systems, in Sayre, Pa., and a Fellowship in Geriatrics from SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York. Dr. Karatela is a member of the American College of Physicians (ACP), American Medical Association (AMA), and American Geriatrics Society (AGS).

Before joining WCA Hospital, Dr. Karatela was Medical Director at Coastal Family Health Center, in Biloxi, Miss.

Dr. Karatela joins Jonathan Blasius, M.D., Hospitalist, on staff at WCA Hospital. The Hospitalist team devotes 100 percent of their time to the hospital-based program. "Hospitalists attend to your every need during your hospital stay," said Dr. Blasius. "Communication between the Hospitalist and your primary care physician is of paramount importance at WCA, and we collaborate with your primary care physician at each step of your inpatient care to assure a smooth and speedy recovery from beginning to end."

A Hospitalist is a generally board-certified internal medicine or family practice physician who practices full-time inpatient medicine with no outpatient duties. Hospitalists accept hospitalized patients from primary care or specialty physicians, manage their inpatient care and return the patients to their physicians at discharge.

WCA Hospital of Jamestown is Southwestern New York's largest not-for-profit health care provider, offering an extensive range of inpatient and outpatient acute care and rehabilitation services. WCA is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and American College of Radiology; and is approved by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.
