Pucci's Carpet One, Furniture and Bedding traces its business origins back to the year 1972. But to understand how Pucci's got off the ground you have to go back a couple more years to 1970 when Ron Pucci and his father Carl Pucci started a small delicatessen at the corner of Main Street and Chestnut Street in Fredonia. At the time, Ron was splitting time between the deli and working midnights at Allegheny Ludlum Steel in Dunkirk.

In 1972, the Puccis were in the process of carpeting the apartments above the delicatessen. Ron was a young entrepreneur with little money, but a lot of ambition. He researched and formed a business on paper. That business was Pucci's World of Carpets.

At that time it was common place for delicatessens to purchase goods at a market in downtown Buffalo. One day, on the way back from the market, Ron stopped at a carpet distributor with his newly printed carpet retailer paperwork. The distributor questioned Ron as a practicing retailer but eventually let him buy the rolls of carpets.

This is where this story changes Ron's life forever.

As Ron is walking out the door, the carpet distributor salesman convinced Ron to buy a carpet sample set. Well Ron really didn't know what he was going to do with the samples but he figured he would appease the salesman, since he saved on the rolls of carpet. So with his carpet rolls, and samples, Ron made his way back to Fredonia.

When he got back, he unloaded his vegetables and fruits to the delicatessen. He then went back to the truck and looked at the carpet samples. Ron didn't know what to do with them but knew he had to get them out of his truck so he took them out and put them in front of the meat counter just to get them out of the way. Ron then left to install his carpet and in his haste he left the samples in the delicatessen. Over the next couple days customers would come in and question him about the samples. Over the period of the next week, Ron started selling more carpet then lunchmeat! A thank you to that aggressive carpet salesman.

Ron took a chance at his start-up business in the fall of 1972 and Pucci's World of Carpet was off and running. Ron put in his resignation at the plant and opened his new business just down the street from the delicatessen at 50 West Main St. The early years were not easy but Ron's hard work and determination eventually paid off.

Soon thereafter Ron's wife Michelene, formerly a school teacher, joined the business and Pucci's expanded into furniture. Michelene was instrumental in building the business into what is today. Michelene's decorating touch helped the business grow at that location for the next 10 years until the couple decided to make a move to their current location at 112 West Main St. Together, they then renovated what was a 30,000 sq. ft old warehouse building and turned it into a showroom for home furnishings. The new building would also be a new home to other new home-related business tenants. Since then Pucci's has grown at its present location to be the leader in home furnishings in the area. Many renovations have taken place, additions have been built, walls torn down and relationships made.

Michael Pucci joined the family business in the early '90s after he graduated from Canisius College in 1992. With Michael in place, Pucci's took strides to become a more well rounded store with a large surge in inventory and the expansion of product line and marketing. In the mid 1990s, Pucci's joined the nation's largest carpet buying groups, Carpet One. A few years later, Pucci's took the business to another level joining the industry leader in furniture, Coop Furniture First, another national buying power. Puccis also made important alliances getting into the bedding business with the top bedding companies in the country. Sealy, Simmons and Tempurepedic are all product mainstays in the sleep shop department. Pucci's is also Western New York's supplier of 1-800-Mattresses. The business soon became "Pucci's Carpet One", Furniture and Bedding" and encompassed a wide variety of selection and choices.

Todd Schaefer joined the team in late '90s and took over commercial flooring sales at the store. Todd helped grow the business by expanding into outside sales. Todd currently services the areas of Erie, Buffalo, Jamestown and everywhere else in between. Todd also services Pucci's as their information technology director.
