Board member thanked
Brocton Mayor J. Dale Abram recently thanked Deborah Lloyd Priest for her years on the board and her public service. "She did a fantastic job in her efforts and we wish her the best in all her future endeavors," Abram said.
Annex closing means less water needed
The Lakeview Shock minimum security prison is closing down its annex. It will shift the burden on Brocton's water and wastewater treatment plant from about a third to one quarter of their total water services.
Cable contract
Time-Warner and the Village of Brocton have negotiated a contract to provide cable and internet service to residents within the village limits. The village will call for a public hearing. Within the contract is the stipulation that they must repair any damage done to the roads, sidewalks or other properties within 14 days or immediately if it creates a safety issue. Some 400 homes will soon be offered cable TV service and the village hall will get free high-speed internet.
Open house, art show set for May 27
Patrick Brady, principal of St. Joseph's School in Gowanda, has announced the spring open house and art show. This event will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. May 27. Brady invites prospective families and interested parties to come and enjoy the student displays and refreshments. For more information, call the school at 532-2520.
Early flying in Jamestown
Calling all history detectives in grades 3-5 to follow the clues to learn about the aerial age in Jamestown. From the early days of airmail, death-defying barnstormers and wingwalkers, young historians can uncover what Jamestown residents were saying and doing during the exciting years of the early 20th century. The History Detectives will meet May 23 from 1 to 3p.m. at the Fenton History Center, 67 Washington St., Jamestown. Students may be enrolled by calling 664-6256 or by visiting the Fenton History Center web site at www.fentonhistorycenter.org. The cost is $8.50 per child and if you bring a friend the cost is $4.25 per student. Members of the Fenton History Center receive a 10 percent discount. Space is limited; all students must be pre-registered by Monday.
BCS busy on Tuesday
The Brocton Central School Campus will be busier that usual on Tuesday. In addition to the Annual Budget Vote and School Board Member Election from noon until 8 p.m. in the foyer of the new gymnasium (off of School Street), the Brocton Central School Business Club and FHA cordially invite the senior citizens of the District to an Afternoon Social from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in the High School Cafeteria. Refreshments will be prepared by the FHA and will be served by the Business Club. Entertainment will be provided by the Senior High Band, Elementary Chorus and selected students from the High School Chorus. For reservations, please call 792-2173, during school hours. The All District Music Concert and Art Show will also be held. The concert begins at 7 p.m., community members are encouraged to come early (around 6:30) to see the art show displayed in the auditorium lobby and cafeteria. The Brocton Teachers' Association will also be sponsoring a non-perishable food drive prior to the concert. Community members are invited to help the BTA restock shelves of the local food pantry.
