Mr. and Mrs. James Lehnen

September 20, 2009
The OBSERVER

James and Barbara (Mekus) Lehnen of Dunkirk recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. The day began with a special blessing for the couple at Holy Trinity Church by the Rev. David Bellittiere, pastor. A dinner reception for family and friends was held at Tri-County Country Club in Forestville. The couple, along with their sons and families, left the following day for the Adirondacks where they spent several days vacationing at Lake Placid.

The couple were married on Aug. 22, 1959 at the former St. Mary's Church, now St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, by the bride's uncle, the Rev. Hyacinth Malkowiak, C.P. Parents of the couple are the late Mr. and Mrs. Leo Lehnen and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Mekus.

Mr. Lehnen graduated from SUNY Fredonia and was an elementary principal for the Lake Shore Central School District. Mrs. Lehnen was employed as a secretary on the SUNY Fredonia campus, retiring from the Office of Career Development.
