Sunday fire on Lincoln Avenue

The Dunkirk Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at 130 Lincoln Ave. at 1:03 p.m. on Sunday. The initial crews found heavy smoke and fire conditions in the rear of the building, on both the first and second floors. Initial reports were of possible people in the building, search and rescue teams immediately searched the building with negative results. It was later learned that everyone was accounted for, and the occupants were not at home at the time of the fire. The building sustained heavy fire damage to the second floor, with a part of the roof collapsing during the fire. The rear of the building also sustained significant damage. Crews remained on the scene for three hours, and were called back for a rekindle early in the evening. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Chautauqua County Fire Investigation Team and Dean Wright, fire investigator for the city of Dunkirk Fire Department. One firefighter was taken to Brooks Hospital for evaluation, and was treated and released.
