BROCTON - Jeffrey Scott Gambino is seeking a seat on the Brocton School Board of Education.
Gambino has lived in the district for about six years. He lived in the district from 1999-2001, and again from 2007 to present. "My wife and I moved back into the district so our children could receive the same quality education and enjoy the beautiful environment we enjoyed growing up," he said.
Gambino was born and raised most of his life in Chautauqua County with family in both Fredonia and Brocton. He is appily married to Melanie Gambino, and have two young boys, Jonathan Gambino, 5, and Evan Gambino, 3. Most of his family still lives in the area, as well as my wife's family. He currently has three family members attending BCS. His oldest son Jonathan will start kindergarten in the fall.
Gambino is a member of Saint Josephs Catholic Church, a member of the National Hotel Association, a member of the Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Conservation Club.
"As a business owner, real estate developer, and parent, I know the importance a strong school district is to any community," said Gambino "Anyone considering investing or moving into our community wants to know that their investment is sound and secure, their children are receiving the best possible education, and that their tax dollars are being well spent and not spiraling out of control. That is one of the reasons I have chosen to get involved at this crucial time in our school district. I will make decisions as a parent and as a businessman and on the wishes of the citizens that elected me."
Gambino graduated high school in Florida, and then attended University of Florida.
He has been self-employed since college, owning businesses including restaurants and bars, a 192 unit hotel, and in the past five years, a nightclub located in Florida, and a real estate development and holding company with properties in Florida and New York. Most recently, Gambino just closed on a commercial building in downtown Fredonia (the old fire hall). He is currently working with a local architect and contractors to completely restore the building while adding modern additions such as an elevator, HVAC system, updated electric, handicap access, brick restoration, windows, etc.
"I'm also in a due diligence period for a large piece of property in the town of Portland. I feel there are many opportunities in our area for growth, I see these every day, and look forward to getting more involved. I always enjoyed investing in the communities I was raised in, and feel we have a bright future ahead of us if we get involved and do our part," he said.
Gambino served on the board of directors for Ocean Manor Condominium Hotel as its president for three years. The board consisted of five members elected by the unit owners on a yearly basis.
As a taxpayer and father of two young children in the district, Gambino feels the need to get involved after realizing the dire situation our district is currently in. "While I feel we need to support a quality education for our children, I also feel we need to ensure fiscal oversight of our programs and administration so that they do not become any further burdensome to the taxpayers of the district."
Whether you are a parent, property owner, tenant, or business owner, Gambino notes everyone has a vested interest in what happens in the school district. "If elected to the school board, I promise to listen and represent the voters who elected me. I do not feel this has been done as well as it could be in the past. I will devote my time and efforts to find solutions for the problems we are currently facing and to control the ever-spiraling taxes that are crippling us. I will be open to any solution that will ensure a quality education for our children while being fiscally responsible to the citizens of the district. I hope to bring my experience as a successful businessman and problem solver to the Brocton Central School Board and I ask for your support and vote," he said.
