Conewango Twp. denies request for burning ban

By KARA WHITE kwhite@timesobserver.com
The Conewango Township Supervisors recently received a request for a burning ban on Church Street and in other residential areas of North Warren. At their meeting Monday evening, the supervisors said such a ban is not possible since it would have to include the whole township, not just certain areas or streets. Supervisor Ed Seebeck said, “We either have to do that for the entire township or not at all, so that’s not something we can do.” Driving speed on River Road was also discussed. It was stated that a procedure in order to determine a safe speed will soon be followed. Chairman Linda Swanson mentioned that a lot of people walk along River Road and that a speed of 25 miles an hour for motorists would be appropriate. “There are three big curves on that road,” said Secretary Chuck Barone. “I’m not so sure that it could be up to 35 miles per hour.” The supervisors’ next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13, at the township building.
