Glade survey could aid sewer upgrade

September 27, 2010
Some Glade Township residents will soon be receiving some important mail. The township supervisors are working with Warren County Grants Administrator Lorri Dunlap to find out if a proposed emergency generator for a pump station can be funded by a Community Development Block Grant. “They would like to install an emergency generator for an existing sanitary sewer pump station,” Dunlap said. The pump station moves sewage on its way to the treatment facility in North Warren, she said. “When there’s a power outage, people still have water so they flush,” Dunlap said. But, there’s no power to the pump station, so the system can back up. The proposed generator would clear up that problem. “The generator will kick in to get the pump station working,” she said. “It’s a benefit to them. It’ll keep their sewage from backing up.” In order to determine if CDBG dollars can be used for the estimated $30,550 project, which includes an enclosure for the generator, the results of the income survey must show that at least 51 percent of affected residents meet the CDBG guidelines. “All responses will be kept confidential by the planning office,” she said. The final tally will be sent to the township supervisors, but not individual responses. Residents are not asked to reveal their exact income. Instead, the surveys show income levels based on the number of people in the household and ask for a simple above or below answer. If the federal dollars are not available, the project may or may not be completed. With the CDBG funds, county and municipal tax dollars would not be used for the project. On Friday, income surveys were mailed to residents of Holly Apartments, Townhouse Apartments, and about 12 homes along Conewango Avenue. Stamped return envelopes were mailed with the surveys and Dunlap asks that the surveys be returned “no later than Tuesday, Oct. 5.”
