City of Dunkirk firefighters responded to a house fire at 437 South Roberts Road Thursday around 6:14 p.m.
Upon arrival crews went to work using two handlines to put out a heavy fire in the attic above the second floor of the home. Extensive damage was done before the fire was completely extinguished.
The home has a reported five occupants - two adults and three children - all of whom were outside upon crews arriving. During the fire a dog was recovered safely.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined and is currently being investigated by city and county fire investigators. The fire was completely extinguished just before 8 p.m.
