Ninety-eight-year-old William Bannister of Dunkirk was one of the many local veterans who was served breakfast on Veterans Day at the VFW in Sheridan. Bannister served during WWII in the navy aboard the USS Dole in the Atlantic. Bannister is a longtime resident of Dunkirk. He was accompanied by Richard Yeager and wife Gloria, Bannister’s niece, and Beverly Hanmann, also a niece of Bannister.
