Heritage Green residents honor veterans

June 10, 2011
The OBSERVER

GREENHURST Memorial Day is a good time to reflect on the sacrifices and services of the American soldier and veteran. The residents of Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing (Greenhurst) were recently able to do just this. A Memorial Day Veteran's Program was presented by the AMVETS and the AMVET Auxiliary of Jamestown. This event included a presentation of arms, poetry reading, a folding of the flag, color guard, Taps, and patriotic music provided by "Top Hat Entertainment." The Auxiliary also provided poppies and small flags for the residents and families attending the event. The program was followed by a beautifully decorated patriotic cake.

"Memorial Day is just an opportunity for us to express the special places soldiers and veterans have in the hearts of American citizens and more by honoring the people in the various branches of the military," Susan Zeestraten, director of Activities at Heritage Green, said. "This event was a great way to honor our veterans here at Heritage Green."
