The Golden Olympics is a special event that is planned and implemented by the Southern Tier Activities Association (STAA) annually in the month of June. This was the 25th annual Olympic Games.
Ten facilities participate in this event from all over the Southern Tier - TLC, Absolut Care of Allegany, Absolut Care of Houghton, Cubs Memorial Hospital, Absolut Care of Salamanca, Pines of Machias, Linwood Center, Total Senior Care, Pines of Olean and Wellsville Manor.
Each facility is placed in a division depending upon the number of residents who represent each facility. TLC was placed in division one and earned first place for this division.
What makes the Golden Olympics special is the pride that each participant feels. There are a total of nine games offered and each participant is the freedom to choose two events/games, that best match his or her abilities, likes/dislikes etc. This event also allows the participants a chance to meet and mingle with other residents from sister facilities who have the same common interests as well as a chance to travel along beautiful scenery and enjoy the sunshine all while having a friendly competition.
The Olympic Games also provide a chance to create special memories among both participants and the staff who attend with them. It is these interactions with excitement that help foster lasting and loving relationships among the "family" at TLC. Pride showed as residents were greeted with cheering residents and staff upon arrival back home.
