Michelle Helmer and Jordan Marsh both successfully defended their Club Championships in the annual Cassadaga Country Club Championship held August 13-14. Jordan shot a 1-under 139 for the two-day tournament and his 4-over first-day total of 74 trailed first-day leader Brenton Wilcox at 67 and two-time champion Darren Mangine, at 68. A 5-under 65 on the second day moved Marsh to the Championship. Wilcox finished second with Mangine holding onto third place. Fourteen-time champion Scott Johnson and Tim Bulger rounded out the top five. Helmer won her 10th career Ladies Championship with a wire-to-wire victory. Julie Fenton finished in second with Sheila Whitford’s third place finish rounding out the top three. Ron Juzdowski won his first Senior Men’s Championship with a stellar back nine on the second day to win by five strokes. Ron Hart finished in second place with Ron Martin rounding out the top three. Flight winners were Don Borda (First Flight) with a wire-to-wire victory. John Crossley finished second with Dan Butts in third. The top three winners in the Second Flight were Mark Wallace, Barry Wilcox and Paul Edson. Pictured from left to right are: Wallace, Helmer, Marsh and Juzdowski. Missing was Borda.

Bowling Meeting

The Dunkirk Lakeshore Bowling Association will hold a board meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 24, at 7:30 p.m., at Lakeview Lanes in Silver Creek. This is an open meeting and any bowler belonging to the association is welcome to attend.

All league secretaries are encouraged to attend in order to pick up their packets and receive instructions for the upcoming season. Directors unable to attend the meeting should notify Priscilla Seybold at 366-7161 or Tom Battaglia at 679-4308.

Annual Westfield One-Pitch

Slow Pitch Softball Tourney

The Annual Westfield One-Pitch Slow Pitch Softball Tournament will be held Aug. 27, in Westfield, on the softball fields at NorthLake, Smith and Westfield School. Entry fees must be in by Aug. 25.

The tournament will be a double elimination format, with each batter starting with a 3-2 count. The entry fee is $150 per team. A payout based on 16 teams is $750 for first, $375 for second and $150 for third-place.

Any proceeds will go to the Mark Carlson fund and the Woody Keyser fund.

2011 Gary Tripp Memorial

Golf Tournament

Registration is now open for the 2011 Gary Tripp Memorial Golf Tournament to be held at Shorewood Country Club on Sept. 17.

Cost of the event is $90 per golfer and $65 for Shorewood members. It will be a four-man scramble format. Included will be, registration at 10 a.m., lunch at 11 a.m., tee gifts, shotgun start at noon, 18 holes of golf with cart.

Dinner will immediately follow at the Kosciuszko Club with a choice of prime rib or chicken cordon bleu, refreshments and guaranteed prizes.

Proceeds will benefit the Gary Tripp Memorial Scholarship Fund which is given each year to a Dunkirk High senior who will be attending Jamestown Community College or State University at Fredonia.

SUNY Fredonia Open Skate

The Fredonia State softball team has scheduled two public skating sessions as part of their annual spring-trip fundraising efforts.

The team has reserved the Steele Hall Ice Arena on consecutive Friday nights - Aug. 26 and Sept. 2 - from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Admission is $1 for Fredonia State students with ID, $3 for children and other students and $4 for adults. Skates can be rented for $4 per pair.

MAD DADS 3rd Annual 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament

The MAD DADS 3rd Annual 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament will be held Saturday, Aug. 27, on the basketball courts at Wright Park, in Dunkirk, from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. There will be a slam dunk contest at 1:30.

The tournament is open to anyone ages 10-35. For further information, call 401-1500.

Meeting for 3rd Annual

Wax Cup Tournament

There will be a meeting held on Sunday, Aug. 28, at 7 p.m., at the Dunkirk Falcon Club for all golfers planning to travel to Southern Pines, NC to play in the 3rd Annual Wax Cup golf tournament.

The tournament will be held from Oct. 9-15. Courses, tee-times and travelling arrangements will be set at the meeting. Also, a $100 deposit will be collected.
