LILY DALE - Pets will take the spotlight on Tuesday, when the Church of The Living Spirit will sponsor its first annual Blessing of the Animals. The outdoor service, led by the Rev. Joanne Copley-Nigro will take place at 6 p.m., within the Wolf Clan Stump Circle on Cleveland Avenue directly across the street from the church.
"We scheduled this service to coincide with the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals and the environment,'' said the Rev. Copley-Nigro, "and, to give thanks for all the special animals in our lives. We're also focusing on other animals in need of homes, and ask participants to bring animal food or money donations all of which will go to the Northern Chautauqua Canine Rescue. For those whose pets have passed on, we welcome photos of these animals and they will be sent blessings. We welcome all people-friendly and animal-friendly pets - from birds to bird-dogs.''
Each animal will receive a healing ribbon, prayer card, and treat and, each must be on leash or in a carrier. Participants are reminded to have water and clean-up bags for their pets. Lawn chairs or blankets also are suggested.
