50-Plus Seniors

COLLINS - With winter coming soon, the 50-Plus Senior Program has scheduled a mid-winter Casino trip to Seneca Niagara Casino for Tuesday, Feb. 28. Enjoy a fun-filled motor coach tour with a fantastic casino incentive of $40 Seneca slot dollars and a $5 food voucher.

Cost is $12 for residents of Collins, Perrysburg and Persia and $13 for all others. Must have a minimum of 40 paid passengers in order to receive the incentives. Final day for reservations and payment is Nov. 30. Checks payable to Town of Collins must be received no later than this date at Collins Town Hall, attention Joan Byrne, P.O. Box 420, Collins NY 14034.

Reservations may be made by calling Byrne, senior program coordinator, at 532-2507. A sign up sheet also is available in the senior room during program hours. Join in for five hours in exhilarating gaming and dining at a variety of restaurants from casual to fine dining. Pickup time for the motor coach is 10:45 a.m. from the front parking lot of L. K. Painter Community Center, Main Street, Collins.

The Roger Williams Christmas Concert and Lunch trip scheduled for Dec. 13 has been temporarily put on hold due to Williams' death last week. Because of the holiday weekend and the Tuesday news deadline, the Riviera Theatre was unable to determine if a substitute concert would be available. As soon as information is received, participants will be called.

The October Euchre and Pinochle Card Party will be held Sunday, Oct. 16 in the center's gymnasium. Play starts at 1:30 p.m. Cost remains at $5 and includes cash table prizes and luncheon.

Week's activities are: Monday - Indoor Walking and Exercise led by Pat Tucker, 9 a.m., gymnasium; Informal Euchre Game, 1 p.m., senior room. Tuesday - Gentle Arthritis Exercises, 10 a.m., gymnasium. Wednesday - Indoor Walking and Exercises, 9 a.m., gymnasium, Quilting with Florence, 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Community Room, Collins Public Library; for more information call Florence Reynolds, 532-3075; Open Crafts with Pat Tucker, 1 p.m., senior room. Senior Bowling is also held on Wednesdays at 1 p.m. at K & L Lanes, Gowanda. Cost is $1.75 per game or 3 games for $5.

Thursday - Gentle Arthritis Exercises, 10 a.m., gymnasium. Friday - Indoor Walking and Exercises, 9 a.m., gymnasium, Community Service Project, 1 p.m., senior room. Volunteers are needed to work on holiday projects for residents in area hospitals, nursing and residential homes.

The musical trip to see "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" on Oct. 23 at SUNY Fredonia followed by a soup supper at the center has been canceled due to insufficient interest.

Dunkirk Federated Seniors

The Dunkirk Federated Seniors met at the Dunkirk Senior Center on Tuesday. President Loretta Hemink led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance and singing of "God Bless America." A moment of silence was observed for service men and women.

A reading entitled "Sunset" was given by Chaplain Josie Wierczynski. The minutes of the previous meeting were read by Secretary Wierczynski. They were accepted as read by Charlene Hallmark with a second by Marian Genovese.

The treasurer's report was read by Treasurer Ruth Mackowiak. It was accepted as read by Irene Christopher with a second by Jean Kubera.

Attendance prizes were won by Shirley Palmatier, Betty Korzeniewski and Jim Griswold.

Helper of the day was Korzeniewski and others who assisted. The kitchen committee for Oct. 17 is Hemink.

Lake Shore Senior Citizens

Lake Shore Senior Citizens met at the Dunkirk Senior Center on Wednesday. President Charlene Hallmark led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance and singing of "God Bless America."

A reading entitled "My Resolution" was given by Chaplain Loretta Hemink. The minutes of the previous meeting were read by the secretary. They were accepted as read by Dorothy Cooper with a second by Jean Kubera.

The treasurer's report was read by Treasurer Sophia Urbanik. It was accepted as read by Annette Arnone with a second by Sophia Kubasik.

Attendance prizes were won by Ronnie Ginley, Beatrice Tilley and Jean Kubera.

Helper of the day was Stella Michalak and others who assisted. The kitchen committee for the next meeting is Albertine Jakubowicz and Pat Kaus.

The club is having a harvest dinner on Oct. 19 for paid-up members.

Pioneers Social Club

FORESTVILLE - The Pioneers Social Club meeting on Oct. 3 was called to order by President Arlene Miller. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and the opening prayer was given by Norma Steward.

Roll call was taken by Marion Ziecker with 30 members answering.

No minutes were read as the club hasn't met since July.

The treasury report was given by Betty Kuzora. The report was accepted as read by Marlene Bradigan and it was accepted by Carol Pierce.

Birthdays were read for September which included Robert Stearns and Harry Lysette. October birthdays are as follows: Grace Johnson, Arlene Miller, June Gostomski, Angie Logan, Henry Kuzora, Vicki Stelmack, Donna Nobles and John Reardon and Jerry Bostaph.

Sunshine gal Peg Heiden set get-well cards in July to Theresa Latshaw, Lefty Stearns, John Reardon, Jerry Bostaph. A sympathy card to was sent to Andrea Partyka for Don Spears. In August a get-well card was sent to Norma Youngberg and in September a get-well card to Molly Meadows and Joan Blohm.

The food committee for the November meeting is Vicki Stelmack, Norma Steward and June Gostomski.

Jean Martin explained trips to everyone. The lunch drawings were won by Ziecker and Gostomski. The 50/50 drawing was won by Carol Dipirro and Donna Nobles. The Riles and Woolley award went to Dorothy Schneider.

The next meeting will be at the Municipal Building on Monday, Nov. 7. Bradigan made a motion to give money to United Senior Council to mail coupons. Enebel Mirando made a motion to give money to the food pantry. It was seconded by Gertie Syper.

A committee for new officers are Logan and Bradigan.

Steger Hi-Rise Tenants Association

On Tuesday, the Steger Hi-Rise Tenants Association met in the Community Room with 19 members present. President Gordon Raynor called the meeting to order and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Chaplain Josie Wierczynski read a poem titled "A Lasting Peace."

Secretary Wierczynski read the minutes of the previous meeting, which were accepted by Anita Rhinehart and seconded by Joanne Tegler. Treasurer Shirley Palmatier read the financial report and it was accepted by Adie Windsor and Cherriee Torres.

A Halloween party will be held on Halloween, Monday, Oct. 31, at 7 p.m. in the Community Room. The committee for this event will include Rhinehart and Torres.

Mass will be celebrated on Friday, Oct. 21, at 10 a.m. in the Community Room with the Rev. Father Joseph Zalacca, pastor of the Holy Trinity Church, officiating.

Sunshine Lady Windsor reported sending birthday cards to Evelyn Chelsey, Jean Hallmark, Clara Weber and Gordon Raynor. She sent get-well cards to Irene Slintz, al Martin, Ann Schlichter, Helen Kujawa, Shirley Palmatier and Linda Strong.

October birthdays will be celebrated on Oct. 19 at 2:30 to 3 p.m. in the Community Room. Cake and ice cream will be served. Everyone is invited.

The 50/50 raffle winners were Palmatier, Wierczynski, Mary Zanghi, Josh Hughes and Raynor.

United Senior Citizens

The United Senior Citizens met on Oct. 10 at the Fredonia Beaver Club with 103 people present. President Charles St. George introduced Josephine Siragusa as a new member.

He then introduced Dr. Sally St. George and her husband Dr. Dan Wolfe from the University of Calgary in Canada.

The president led the Pledge of Allegiance followed by the Invocation given by Father Werbicki. Lunch was held, which was catered by Beavertail Catering. The members and guests enjoyed a meatloaf dinner.

The 50/50 drawing was held with the winners being John Binko, Leonard Catalano, Alberta Catalano, Barb Centner, Josephine Loutenslaker, Ralph Mock, Florence Rich, Mary Lou Sherman, Louis Siragusa, Dr. Sally St. George, Ruth White and Wolfe.

The meeting began by thanking the October calling committee. They were Dorothy Hilliker, Nancy St. George, Pat Smith, Jane Walsh and Ruth White.

The calling committee for the November Thanksgiving luncheon will be Hilliker, Josephine Christopher, Josephine Wierczynski, Rose Cerrie and Dolores Swank.

"Happy Birthday" was sung to the October birthday members. They are Mickey Colichia, Anita Golubski, Ray Halasinki, Norma St. George, Ann Spencer, Vicky Stelmack, Shirley Tilburg and Josephine Christopher.

The next luncheon will be the annual Thanksgiving luncheon on Nov. 14. The menu will be roast turkey with dressing, sweet potatoes, bean casserole, tossed salad, coffee and dessert.

At the November meeting members should bring $5 for the December Christmas luncheon. The club will also be collecting dues for 2012. The 2012 dues must be paid by Dec. 1 to get the discounted price on the Christmas party.

Bingo was played which was hosted by Carrie LoGuidice and Mayme Joy.
