A 79-year-old motorist lost control of his vehicle this afternoon in downtown Dunkirk and crashed into three parked cars. According to Dunkirk police, the man appeared to have had a medical problem which may have caused him to lose control of his vehicle.
The motorist, who was not identified, was transported to Brooks Memorial Hospital. The accident closed Central Avenue, from Third to Fourth streets, for about 45 minutes. The portion of the street was reopened around 2 p.m.
Witnesses at the scene said they heard a large "boom" when the accident occurred around 1:20 p.m. Crews from Dunkirk Police Department, Dunkirk Fire Department and Dunkirk Public Works Department were on the scene. Some of those assisting swept piles of glass, metal and plastic from the crash.
