Ronald and Laura Mohr

Ronald and Laura Mohr, summer residents of Ripley, will have been married for 50 years on Thursday. The former Laura Ethelyn Jones and Ronald Mohr were married Oct. 27, 1961, at Sugar Grove Methodist Church, Sugar Grove, Pa., by the Rev. Edwin F. Armitage.

The couple resided in North Amherst for 40 years. Mr. Mohr is a retired processing/chemical engineer from Carborundum Coated Abrasives in Wheatfield. Mrs. Mohr is a retired bus driver from National School Bus in Amherst. She also worked in food service at the University at Buffalo for many years.

Both are still active members of the North Amherst Fire Hall, of which they have been members of for more than 45 years. They are also very active in the Niagara Frontier Fiddle Club and attend various bluegrass festivals, music jam sessions and anything else musically-related. The couple flies south to Satsuma, Fla., for the winters.

Mr. and Mrs. Mohr have three children and six grandchildren - Jerry (wife Alison, children Shawn and Cheyenne) Mohr of Tonawanda; Derek (wife Liza, children Charlotte, Grace and Eli) Mohr of Clarence; and Heidi Mohr (husband Dan Cassidy, daughter Katerine Cassidy) of Amherst.

The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary a few months early at a surprise party held July 16 at Vikings Lake Park in Maple Springs. One-hundred of the couple's friends and family were in attendance. The celebration was given by their three children and their families, with help from Norma Watson, Melanie Folts, Janice Spitz, Donna Carlson, Greg Mohr, Ray and Luella Jones. Out-of-state guests attended from North Carolina, Florida, California, Pennsylvania, Michigan, West Virginia, Ohio and Connecticut.
