St. Elizabeth Ann Seton CYO prepares for Christmas Basket Project

November 26, 2011
The OBSERVER

With Christmas fast approaching, the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Youth Organization is beginning to prepare for its annual Christmas Basket Project. Each year, the youth group provides food and gifts to up to 180 needy families from the area. Last Christmas, the youth group was able to assist approximately 650 adults and children from the area. The CYO relies on the generous contributions of the community to support this tremendous endeavor. Approximately $8,000 needs to be raised to fund the project.

Today, the SEAS CYO will have a "Fill the Stocking" drive at various intersections in Dunkirk. Collections will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The following intersections will be collection points: Central Avenue and Fifth Street, Central Avenue and Fourth Street, and Doughty Street (near Route 60). Monetary donations are greatly appreciated.

To help raise awareness for the needy and homeless, the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton CYO will be sleeping out in the courtyard of Northern Chautauqua Catholic School tonight. During the hours of 4 p.m. tonight until 9 a.m. Sunday, donations of money, food and gifts will be accepted.

Beginning Monday, the CYO will be accepting applications for Christmas baskets. The baskets will be put together and distributed on Dec. 16 through 18. Volunteers are needed to assist with the weekend of Christmas Baskets. For more information, contact Carol Smith, project coordinator, at 366-5908.
