Side effects are ‘unintended’

December 3, 2011
The OBSERVER

Editor, OBSERVER:

This is in response to the commentary "Why we occupy" (Nov. 20). The article is not original in its thought.

It is like the anti-war demonstrators in the '60s after they had voted for LBJ. Blood and treasure in Iraq? Since Roe v. Wade, we have had 30 million abortions. That is more than any calamity the country has faced.

If you voted for Clinton in the '90s, you helped create this mess. They wanted to expand homeownership via Fannie and Freddie. That they did. The loans were packaged to Wall Street. The risks were carefully masqueraded.

Activists gave us anti-trust laws, which any good economist says drive up prices. Everything the activists do has a serious unintended side effect.

I thought we had the ballot box for change. This is not some Third World country, although President Obama is fast making it so.

Mobs should not run America. To all the activists I say, why do you not use the vast resources of the college to come up with a new source of power?
