First United Presbyterian Church Women's Guild

The Women's Guild of the First United Presbyterian Church of Dunkirk recently held their annual Christmas luncheon at Shorewood Country Club.

A short business meeting was conducted by Moderator Evelyn Warmbrodt. The local, national and world missions that the guild supports were discussed.

The officers for the year 2012 will be as follows: Moderator Linda Piglowski, Secretary Jean Mekus, Treasurer Marilyn Mahany, Association Treasurer Nancy Zastrow, Sunshine Committee: Liz Abram, and reader of "The Least Coin," Mary Anderson.

The closing prayer was offered by the Rev. Cheni Khonje.

Trinity Episcopal Women

The Trinity Episcopal Women's meeting was held at member Emily Ivey's house. The first order of business was setting out the details of the annual Christmas cookie sale. The date has been set for Dec? 16 in Garland Hall from 9 a.m. until sold out. Plates of freshly-baked cookies and candies are created with no two the same. This is an annual favorite which sells out quickly.

Starting this year the Sunshine Committee will also handle, as needed, any small receptions that follow Sunday services. The annual Christmas party will be held at Connie VanScooter's on Tuesday at 6 p.m. Everyone attending will bring an appetizer or dessert and come prepared to make a free-will offering that will be used to support a selected worldwide initiative that supports women in need. A sign-up sheet will be put up in Garland Hall.

A proposal was made to support the Red Cross, in conjunction with Pitney Bowes, who is asking for holiday cards to be written thanking, active veterans and active military personnel's family for their service. Cards were made available and were to be turned into church by Dec. 7.

Discussion was held on possible dates and speakers for the annual Epiphany Tea in January.

Following the meeting, members returned to Garland Hall to pack the turkey baskets that were being delivered to the Rural Ministry and parishioners in need.
