Editor, OBSERVER:
This letter is for the non-believers of this country.
Fighting terrorists and those who are against our way of life is the responsibility of every able-bodied American to save our country from those who want to destroy us. It is not fair to those men and women who are now defending us from harm for them to do this job alone.
Those young men and women who stay behind and enjoy that protection think nothing of that freedom that they now enjoy and take advantage of those freedoms.
It is time for those who chose to stay behind and allow others to protect them to be counted and join the ranks of their brothers and sisters to also protect their families and help to defend our way of life.
The days of non-conforming are over. It is time for you to take that responsibility for your own lives so others don't have to go into battle for more than one tour of duty.
That one tour of duty should be enough. After that one tour of duty, their lives are in jeopardy. This is not right.
Fighting terrorists is a battle for our very own existence and for the survival of this country and its people.
Fighting terrorists will continue to go on for decades. We, as a people, must be prepared for that ultimate battle and for that ultimatum. If not, we as Americans will be doomed.
RICHARD MAKUCH,
Dunkirk
