Gowanda High School November Students of the Month

GOWANDA - The November Students of the Month at Gowanda High School are as follows:

Corey Syracuse Grade 10, Mathematics

Mrs. Baer nominated Corey for this award because he is a phenomenal student who had a first quarter average above 100 percent. He is conscientious about getting work in on time with an emphasis on quality! He readily assists his classmates when they need help. Corey works construction on weekends and during the holidays. He wants to pursue a career in the culinary arts. He would like people to know that in his spare time he studies philosophy.

Skylar Ruttenbur Grade 9, Science

Mrs. Dispenza nominated Skylar because she is cooperative and attentive in class. She goes beyond what is expected of her and is always willing to help anyone in need. Skylar always puts others needs before her own. She is upbeat and happy all of the time and has a sense of happiness that is felt by all. Skylar participates in swimming and plays the guitar whenever she gets the chance. She would like to go to college and would like a career working with animals. She wants people to know that she is a good listener.

Joanne Hauber Grade 12, Business

Mrs. Ondus nominated Joanne for this award because of her positive attitude and her wonderful personality. Joanne participates in Model Office during her free periods at GHS. After high school she would like to study to be a nurse and work with children in a pediatric ward. She would like people to know that she is really outgoing and friendly. She is a people person.

Ashley Burr Grade 11, Physical Education

Mrs. Cassidy nominated Ashley because she is always prepared for class and her attendance has been excellent. When she was absent she was very diligent about completing all work to maintain her high average. Ashley tries her best all the time and is willing to partner with everyone. She helps her fellow classmate and is kind to everyone. Ashley is a GCS cheerleader. She wants to go to medical school after she graduates so that she can help kids. She wants people to know that she does not like cold weather.

Amber Drain Grade 12, The Arts

Mr. Rydzik nominated Amber because her class work is always extremely well done and thought out. She is not satisfied with simply completing an assignment. She goes above and beyond, thinking creatively and pushing the limits with her artwork. Amber also helps design and create props for the musicals and plays. Through all of this, Amber keeps a positive attitude and is extremely responsible and reliable. Amber is a member of the National Honor Society and a returning member of the yearbook. Her aspirations are to attend college with a dual major in Korean Studies and History. She hopes to pursue a career in teaching English and/or translating in South Korea. She would like people to know that she is artistic and often listens to Asian music. Amber highly suggests Asian music; she says it is very good.

Denise Purdy Grade 9 . LOTE

Mr. Garlow nominated Denise and states that he has never seen Denise conduct herself in a manner that is contrary to the ideals outlined in the school's P.R.I.D.E. Denise is a ray of sunshine in class. She is diligent in completing tasks especially where long term assignments are concerned. Denise manages the cross country team at GCS. She would like to be a photographer because she wants to travel and photograph the greatest of destinations. She wants people to know that she is the oldest of 8 kids and loves smelly stickers.

Hunter Samuelson Grade 10, ELA

Mr. Jarzynski made this nomination because Hunter leads by example in English 10. When she speaks it is with attention to detail and higher level thinking skills which are fresh and unpretentious. Her writing is finite and precocious. She is focused in class and polite. These qualities make Hunter an ideal choice for student of the month. Hunter is a cheerleader, participates in track and field and writes for the school newspaper. She wants to go to college for communication and is considering St. Bonaventure. She would like to be a journalist or have a career in something that involves writing. She would like people to know that it's impossible for her to succeed without struggling and working hard.

Jessica Bessette Grade 12, Social Studies

Mr. Hatfield nominated Jessica Bessette as student of the month for the Government class. Jessica is always on time to class, prepared, and ready to learn. She has an outstanding attitude and is ready and eager to participate in class discussions. Jessica participates in National Technical Honor Society through BOCES and she plans on playing softball in the spring. She is planning to go to Alfred State for veterinary technology after she graduates from GCS. One thing she wants people to know is that she goes to BOCES for Small Animal Science and loves it.
