Dave Golando to conduct the Chautauqua Concert Band

JAMESTOWN - The Chautauqua Concert Band will be performing its 18th annual concert at the Reg Lenna Civic Center in Jamestown, on Jan. 7 at 7 p.m. This year's theme is Band Director Favorites under the baton of John Cross and narration of Dennis Webster. All the songs to be performed on this concert were chosen by the members in the band.

Some of the highlights for the first half of the program will include Brauvura, Songs Of Sailor and Sea, Bach's Contrupuctus IX, and On Eagle's Wings. Jamestown High School Band Director, Meghan Murray, will guest conduct on Incantation and Dance. The featured soloist this year is Erik Lundquist, who will be performing James Curnow's, Rhapsody For Euphonium.

Two-hundred middle school musicians from 16 local schools will perform with the Chautauqua Band during the second half of the concert. They will also attend instrumental classes, rehearse with the professional musicians and enjoy a live concert featuring the jazz quintet, Jazz Reunion. Seventh grader's will perform Maritime March, Warriors of Sparta and Solemn Procession under the direction of Dunkirk Band Director David Golando. Golando has played professionally since the age of 16 in various musical groups including classical, rock and jazz styles. He is the founder and leader of the saxophone quartet, "Saxtime" and "The Dave Golando Big Band." Originally from the Jamestown area, Mr. Golando graduated from Southwestern Central School and holds a Bachelor of Science from Slippery Rock University and a Master of Science from SUNY Fredonia. He has played clarinet and saxophone with the Chautauqua Concert Band for the past 18 years and has never missed a performance!

Eighth graders will perform Garden of the Black Rose, Blue Ridge Saga and Redlands March under the direction of Clymer Band Director, Daniel Klinczar.
