Blessed Mary Angela Rosary Society
Blessed Mary Angela Rosary Society met recently at St. Hedwig Social Center. President Rita Cieslewicz greeted the members and led all present during recitation of the Rosary and prayers for ill and deceased members.
Martha Bialaszewski read the opening prayer for the meeting.
Secretary Carole Schiller gave the minutes from the November meeting. They were accepted on motions from Sandy Tapasto and Marilyn Nalepa.
Treasurer Lucille Bartkowski gave the financial report of December expenses. Pat Kokocinski and Rose Gawronski motioned to accept and were in favor.
There was no sunshine report. The Jan. 5 birthday of Sandra Tapasto was celebrated.
The Rev. Matthew Nycz and the Rev. John Trela were guests; gave thanks for all society events during the past year and encouraged all future activities.
An election of officers took place which are as follows: President Martha Bialszewski, Vice President Patricia Kokocinski, Secretary Carole Schiller, Treasurer Lucille Bartkowski and the vice president will serve as sunshine chairperson.
Installation will take place at the Feb. 6 meeting in St. Hyacinth's Lyceum.
Marilyn Nalepa gave the closing prayer.
Refreshments were served by Cieslewicz, Jane Szukala, Schiller and Bartkowski from an after Christmas decorated table. A social hour followed with raffles and Bingo. Joan Zielinski won the centerpiece tree and lottery tickets.
Trinity Episcopal Church ECW
The Trinity Episcopal Church ECW met recently at the home of member Judy Reynolds. As the celebration of Epiphany had only just occurred the home was still festively decorated for the season much to all of the attendee's delight.
A full agenda was covered beginning with opening prayer and the treasurer's report showing the group was in the black. Many, many thanks were given for everyone's enthusiastic participation in the December cookie sale and the decision was made to keep the same format with one or two little changes. Thank you notes from various people and organizations were also shared.
The group chose to, once again, participate in the year-long individual fundraising effort known as "Christmas Stockings" by saving quarters equal to the number of each month of the year (January, save one; February, save two, etc). The money saved in the stockings by December will allow the group to make a larger impact in supporting an initiative that helps women in third world countries to become self-sufficient and give them a way to support their families. The special collection containers were handed out and more will be available in both Garland Hall and near the church entrance during the month of January.
The meeting dates for February through June were set up, with varied locations, some in Garland hall and some in homes of members. The list of events will be sent via regular mail to ensure all women know what is happening.
Various special celebrations within the church in the coming months were also discussed. The ECW agreed to host a Chautauqua Deanery Education Lunch open to all Episcopalians at noon on March 17. The discussions are to be led by the new bishop for the Western New York Diocese the Rt. Rev. Bishop R. Wiliam Franklin.
The church's traditional corned beef and cabbage dinner for the members of Trinity will be held on Monday, March 12. It will coordinated by Bobbie Kennedy and her cheerful crew of workers. Watch for the sign-ups and don't delay as there will be limited seating.
A reminder was given that this year the annual parish meeting will be held on Monday hosted by the vestry who will be feeding the group with a variety of chilis, cornbread, salad and dessert. This is a special meal in celebration of the completion of the financing for the recent renovation of Garland Hall project.
The final order of business was the planning of the upcoming annual Epiphany Tea to be held in Garland Hall on Sunday, Jan. 29, at 2 p.m. The group will be hosting 17-year-old Hannah Marie Jonus, granddaughter of Alice and the late Vic Jonus and her mother who went to Addis Ababa in Ethiopia on a mission trip this past fall. They went specifically to help with an organization called Mending Kids. This is a not-for-profit group of doctors who volunteer their time and talents to provide life-changing surgical care to children worldwide. Speakers will be coming in via the technology of a pre-made DVD and real time Skype for the purpose of hearing directly from them and being able to ask direct questions. A screen will be provided so everyone can watch Hannah and her mother who will speak to us from their living room in California. A free will offering will be taken and added to monies from the ECW in order to make a contribution to this groups work. A collection of $50 will pay for the medical supplies for one surgery.
The next meeting is scheduled for Feb. 4 to be held at the home of Patty Arnold. All women of Trinity Episcopal Church are welcome to attend
Ladies Society of Blessed Mary Angela Parish
The Ladies Society of Blessed Mary Angela Parish met Tuesday at the social center.
President Carole Schiller welcomed the members and opened the meeting with a prayer.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read by Jenny Naruszewicz. Joan Zielinski gave the treasurer's report and Dorothy Sarzyniak celebrated the annual dues. Sophia Urbanik reported for the Sunshine Committee.
Blueberry and raspberry pie a la mode was served from a table covered with a yellow cloth. A large, fresh, tropical plant centered the table which was flanked by white candles in star-shaped holders.
The officers served on the refreshment committee. A raffle was held and many prizes were awarded. Martha Bialaszewski won the plant.
The next Ladies Society meeting will be Tuesday, Feb. 14, at 7 p.m. at the parish social center.
