The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Academy announces that Recruit Nicholas Pierce is the 14th recipient of the $800 Dan Feather Memorial Scholarship. Pierce is currently attending the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Academy at Jamestown Community College in the hopes of pursuing a career in law enforcement. He is from Ripley and attended Westfield Academy and Central School, graduating in 2007. He also graduated from Jamestown Community College with an associate's degree in criminal justice and Fredonia State with a bachelor's degree.
The Dan Feather Memorial Scholarship was created by Verna Feather, who is the widow of Dan Feather, an 18-year veteran of the Jamestown Police Department. The recipient of this scholarship must be a Chautauqua County resident, currently attending the Sheriff's Academy and possessing qualities which reflect the professionalism and character that Officer Feather demonstrated during his service as a police officer.
It is the hope of Mrs. Feather that this scholarship can be a lasting memorial to Dan and also help those who are just starting out in the pursuit of a career in police work.
