The secret’s in the sauce for St. Rose of Lima

February 11, 2012
The OBSERVER

FORESTVILLE - It's spaghetti dinner time again. The annual spaghetti dinner will be served on Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. in the church hall of St. Rose of Lima, 11 Center St. in Forestville. A highlight of the dish is the homemade sauce, as well as the homemade meatballs. Complementing the dinner will be a fresh green salad and Italian bread with ice cream and fresh Italian cookies for dessert. The cost remains the same as prior years - adult, $8, and child, $4.

This annual affair has been presented to the community each year at this time for many, many years. Originated by Bob Morelle of St. Rose of Lima Church and John Yerico of St. John Bosco Church, the parishioners look forward to coming together to make the meatballs and have a good time. It is quite common to hear, "When is meatball Sunday?" or "I'll be there, I love those fried meatballs!" Although the community does not get the fried meatballs, they do enjoy them in fresh spaghetti sauce, made from scratch on Sunday morning.

This year, chefs will introduce a white pasta. Upon request only, a plate of spaghetti with alfredo sauce and meatballs without sauce will be served. If this becomes popular, perhaps a big pot of alfredo will be available next year.

Spaghetti dinners are very popular as fundraisers for many organizations and benefits. The St. Rose Church, member of the Faith Community of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, uses this dinner to help pay for maintenance and repair of the church and grounds. February was chosen years ago as a good month to offer spaghetti as it does not conflict with the church's chicken n' biscuit dinner, their pork chop dinner and, of course, the Lawn Fete.

"It's always a pleasure to offer dinners to the public as it brings many friends and family out to Forestville," said Pat Morelle. " These dinners become quite social."

Fr. Dan Fiebelkorn, pastor of the Faith Community of Mt. Carmel welcomes one and all to dine and enjoy the day. For more information, to reserve a table, to order Alfredo pasta or for any other information, call Pat at 965-2738 or Scott Gilman at 965-2459.
