An Erie man was charged following a traffic stop on Tuesday.
Donald R. Chaney, 35, of East 21st Street was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of marijuana. Chaney was stopped by Dunkirk Police at 5 p.m. on Lake Shore Drive West near the city line for a traffic violation. When an officer approached the vehicle to request Chaney's license and registration, the officer noticed a very strong odor of marijuana. Chaney was asked to step out of the vehicle and questioned about the smell coming from inside. Chaney admitted to having a small amount of marijuana in the car.
A check of the car revealed a cooler containing a large bag full of high quality marijuana with an aggregate weight of more than two ounces. Police also seized several thousand dollars in U.S. currency from the vehicle. Chaney is being held without bail in the Dunkirk City Jail.
