Twenty years ago - 1992
The Dunkirk Zoning Board of Appeals approved a variance that will allow Randal Goss of Leming Street to build an addition to the former Gert's Restaurant at 211 Lake Shore Drive West and reopen the business as a restaurant and convenience store. Mr. Goss, the prospective owner, said the business would be open from 7 a.m. to midnight and no alcohol would be served. He said he hoped to make it one of the nicest looking structures in the area - second only to the Sheraton Harborfront Inn.
Thirty years ago - 1982
Jill Renee Privateer of Fredonia, winner of the Kraft Hostess Award in the recent New York Junior Miss Pageant in Syracuse, chose "Wingin' It! From Western New York to ..." for her party theme - a party planned for 15 to 20 guests. The menu featured chicken wings with New York Cheesecake for dessert.
Forty years ago - 1972
Glenn W. Woodin, Dunkirk attorney for 63 years, was honored by the Northern Chautauqua County Bar Association at a testimonial dinner held at Shorewood Country Club.
Fifty years ago - 1962
The old Cycle Club, 119-121 Washington Ave., Dunkirk, long a landmark in the city, is a thing of the past. Wreckers, employed by the present owners, Dunkirk Unit Parts Inc., are leveling the structure today.
