Fredonia Middle School emerged as the champion in the Middle School Challenge academic quiz bowl competition held recently on Jamestown Community Coll-ege's Jamestown Campus.
The annual event is sponsored by JCC's chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the honors organization for two-year colleges.
Coached by Jenniffer Maslakowski, the Fredonia team included Lindsey Aldrich, Ciara Carlson-Healy, Maitland Langwor-thy, Brooke Layman, Graciela Rey, Claire Stokes, and Gwen Stokes.

Jamestown's Washington Middle School captured second place honors in the competition. Other competing teams represented Cassadaga Valley, Fillmore, Panama, Sherman and Southwestern.
Quiz bowl questions covered a variety of topics including current events, geography, literature, mathematics, fine arts, science, social studies, vocabulary, and sports.
Competitors and guests were welcomed by Marilyn A. Zagora, JCC's vice president and dean of academic affairs.
Moderators were Phi Theta Kappa advisors Renee Funke, teacher education instructor, and Catherine Iannello, assistant professor of human services.
