Twenty years ago - 1992
The Containerboard project is unlikely to cause any significant damage to agriculture crops - especially grapes - if it is located in the Westfield area, the state Agriculture and Markets Commissioner Richard T. McGuire said today the agency has ruled. One of the major points made by the opposition to this project has been the prospective impact of Containerboard on the grape industry. This ruling puts this question to rest.
Thirty years ago - 1982
Peter G. Nixon of Westfield has been elected president of the New York Angus Association at the organization's annual meeting in Syracuse. A Westfield village trustee, he is vice president of operations for the Chautauqua and Erie Telephone Corp., a family-owned business in Westfield. He also manages the family's Angus cattle farm.
Forty years ago - 1972
Joe Torre, who received the National League's Most Valuable Player Award last season, has signed a two-year contract with the St. Louis Cardinals. He will receive $130,000 this year and $150,000 in 1973.

Richard Rubenstein, a Dunkirk High School senior, has been selected as the Outstanding Teenager of the Week. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Rubenstein, 57 W. Fourth St., Dunkirk.
