Chautauqua County Dist. Atty. John T. Ward Jr. said today he will try to put Ralph "Bucky" Phillips in prison for life as a persistent felony offender. Phillips had pleaded innocent to four felony marijuana sale and possession charges when arraigned before County Court Judge Lee Towne Adams. In addition to the drug charges, there are a number of outstanding charges of car theft allegedly committed during Phillips' Feb. 26 to March 12 flight and ensuing manhunt.

Student of the Week is Elizabeth Lewandowski, daughter of Frank and Mary Lewandowski of 45 Middlesex Drive, Fredonia. A senior at Fredonia Central School, Beth is a three-year member of the high school Concert Band and has played for the school musicals. She plans to attend Fredonia State University College, majoring in business accounting.
Forty years ago - 1972
Priests of the Passionist Congregation, members of which have served St. Mary's Church in Dunkirk and its parishioners for 112 years, will be relieved of their duties, effective Aug. 1. According to an announcement made by the Rev. Godfrey Kasper, CP, they will be replaced with diocesan priests.
