Cemetery group wants involvement

April 2, 2012
The OBSERVER

Editor, OBSERVER:

Circle April 24 on your calendar! The Villenova (Cemetery) Burial Association, a non-profit organization run by a few dedicated volunteers, is holding a public meeting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24, at the Villenova Grange. The grange is located at Routes 83 and 322. We meet twice a year for a few hours and are in need of more volunteers, more of our neighbors to join us!

For more than 200 years, Villenova Cemetery has benefited Villenova, South Dayton and surrounding communities. The cemetery has remained financially self sufficient, funded primarily by plot sales and cemetery fees.

Villenova Cemetery is not subsidized by your property taxes or by local or state government funding. Community involvement and donations are very important to keep it this way and for its survival. You may wish to be buried where your relatives are, and if you work, live and die in a community, you should have the opportunity to make a local cemetery your final resting place. If you would like to preplan and purchase a plot, contact our sexton and president Sue Ecker-Newton at 988-3145.

In 1811 local folks first instituted Villenova Cemetery and since 1890 association volunteers just like you and me have attended meetings, worked to keep the cemetery solvent, served on the board and committees and helped maintained the grounds. We know that the time and resources put into making this cemetery the best it can be is a reflection of how much we care, not just about those that have passed away, but also how important it is that what they shared with us is passed on to the next generation. Your support is greatly appreciated.

JUDY PHILLIPS,

Forestville,

vice president,

Villenova Burial Association
