CHAUTAUQUA - Hurlbut Community Church in Chautauqua Institution will feature special guests OD Jazz Trio at its "Midweek Vespers" worship service today. The weekly family music and arts worship event will begin with a 5:30 p.m. dinner, with the service beginning at 6 p.m.
Three local veteran musicians have formed the OD Trio, an offshoot from the well-known bluegrass band, Old Dawg Bluegrass. The trio, which now has been in existence for over two years, performs a sweet and snappy mix of swing jazz, western swing, blues and pop tunes.
Band members include mandolin player and vocalist Steve Strom, a gifted multi-instrumentalist and songwriter who comes from a family of talented musicians; Popular bluegrass and jazz guitarist/vocalist Steve Eng; and Upright electric bassist Mark Davis, who began his musical career as a keyboardist and fiddle player but now demonstrates his exceptional talents on the bass with his rhythmic and solo abilities.

With a 12-decade combined professional resume, the three musicians of the OD Jazz Trio each has performed in various country, folk rock, jazz and bluegrass bands at numerous venues throughout New York and Pennsylvania. This experience has not only produced a popular bluegrass band, but also this vehicle which showcases their versatility and passion for other musical genres.
They will be performing a host of Gospel favorites, as well as original arrangements.
The Midweek Vespers is a weekly music and arts-based worship service with a minimum of spoken word. It is presented every Wednesday in Hurlbut Church, Pratt at Scott Avenues, Chautauqua. "Faith Weaver," a children's supervised Bible experience, is provided separately during the service.
