Twenty years ago - 1992

Former First Ward Councilman Randal Goss has filed a $500,000 lawsuit against the city of Dunkirk for allegedly violating his civil rights by not hiring him last year as a paid firefighter because he was a Republican. In the complaint, Goss alleges that public works director Michael Bednar indicated to him that he made an executive decision with city attorney Michael Bluth and then-mayor Greg Krauza not to appoint him and referred to Goss's decision not to help Bluth obtain the Conservative endorsement for city court judge.

Thirty years ago - 1982

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Phelka of New Road, Dunkirk have returned from Glens Falls where their daughter Laurie Scott performed in concert with Mickey Gillie and his band. Laurie and Mickey have just recorded three singles (records) which should be released very soon. From Glens Falls, the country-western group went to Atlantic City.

Forty years ago - 1972

Playing at the Regent Theater in Dunkirk are "Klute" starring Jane Fonda and Donald Sutherland and "Summer of '42," starring Jennifer O'Neill and Gary Grimes.

Fifty years ago - 1962

The Point Gratiot light has been turned on on an automatic basis and will continue in operation throughout the coming navigation season.
