Editor, OBSERVER:
NRG's Dunkirk facility and I believe the Huntley plant have recently undergone $200,000,000 renovation to bring them up to EPA standards that will be requiped by 2015. Yet these two plants have been earmarked to be mothballed and perhaps closed down completely. The reason being less demand for electricity.
However, Gov. Andrew Cuomo is contemplating purchasing power from Quebec and will probably necessitate construction of the grid to bring over. He is also proposing to buy power from New Jersey, whose plants are less up to EPA standards than our two plants.
If we need power where is the logic in purchasing electricity with New York state tax dollars when it is available here. Is there anyone in our state government with enough brains to see the fallacy in this?
Are the politicians pushing to favor a few or is the buying of power from New Jersey to line someone's pocket.
