Electrical safety course offered

An electrical safety course for maintenance personnel will be offered at Jamestown Community College's Jamestown Campus on May 15 and 17.

The course, which meets from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m., will be taught by Steve Quelet. Tuition is $200. To register, call JCC's Center for Continuing Education, 338-1005.

Participants will examine electrical hazards and proper safety and troubleshooting methods. Topics include regulatory functions, lockout/tagout, safe equipment installation, and testing procedures.

Quelet spent 12 years in electrical construction and 30 years in electrical industrial maintenance. He has conducted electrical safety industrial maintenance training sessions with area companies.

Parent Network of WNY announces free workshop at Community Center

Parent Network of WNY is pleased to offer "Preparing for a Meeting", a free workshop for families of individuals with disabilities. The workshop will be held April 18 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Cattaraugus Community Center, 12767 Route 438 in Irving.

Parents and individuals with disabilities have the opportunity to participate in various meetings with professionals throughout a school year including the annual Committee on Special Education.

Participants will walk away with tips on how to be prepared, organized and learn how to be a powerful advocate.

Everyone who attends this training will be entered into a drawing for a $20 Wal-Mart gift card. The winner must be present to receive the gift card.

PVCS adult interest courses

The following adult interest courses are being offered at Pine Valley Central School this Spring from April 16 May 18:

Safety: AARP Driver Safety Program - Mature Driving (4/24 & 25); Educational: Computer Technology: Introduction to Excel (4/17, 24; 5/1, 8, 15); Exercise: Zumba Dance: (4/16, 18, 23, 25, 30; 5/2, 7, 9, 14, 16); Total Body Workout: (4/16, 18, 23, 25, 30; 5/2, 7, 9, 14, 16).

Bridge closing

Chautauqua County Bridge No. 1023 on Mill Creek Road in the town of charlotte between Rood Road and Lewis Road will be closed to all traffic effective April 9. This closure is due to the replacement of the bridge. A detour will be posted.

Flushing the hydrants

Street supervisor Thomas Fetter announced that the hydrants in Cassadaga will be flushed on April 9. Residents should be aware that roily water may be present in the system.
