Twenty years ago - 1992
A ground-breaking ceremony for a new Child Care and Adult Day Care Center was held on the campus of the Lake Shore Health Care Center, Routes 5 & 20, Irving. Construction is expected to begin later this year for the 4,700 square foot structure. When complete, it will accommodate 60 children and 15 adult day-care clients.
Thirty years ago - 1982
Ten-year-old Regina Tell, a fourth-grade pupil at School 3 in Dunkirk, was the winner of the "Black History" Essay Contest sponsored by the school. Miss Tell is the daughter of Willie and Betty Tell, 164 King St., Dunkirk. The title of her essay is: "What Black History Means To Me." In the essay, she wrote that the accomplishments of black people are very important and that she is proud of the black race and proud of her parents,
Forty years ago - 1972
Charles J. Hannum has been named the new attorney for the Dunkirk Housing Authority. He succeeds Edward Teich.
Fifty years ago - 1962
Christine Bialaszewski, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bialaszewski, 236 Townsend St., Dunkirk is the Cardinal Mindszenty High School "Teenager of the Week." Christine is also the organist and choir director at St. Hedwig's Church.
