OBSERVER Staff Report
WESTFIELD - Brent Morrison went 4 for 4 Saturday, including a home run and a double, collecting eight RBIs, as the Westfield Wolverines (8-3, 5-0) defeated CCAA Division 3 baseball counterpart, Chautauqua Lake (3-5, 1-4), 14-5.
"He was zoned in on the ball," Westfield head coach Doug Kaltenbach said of Morrison.
Morrison drove in three runs in the first, three more, including two on his home run, in the second, one in the third and one more in the fifth.
"He hit the ball hard each time," Kaltenbach added of Morrison. "There were no cheap hits."
Morrison also earned the win on the mound, but it was the work of relief pitcher Rob Burgess that caught Kaltenbach's eye.
"Burgess is the story of the game for us pitching-wise," Kaltenbach said. "Brent wasn't struggling, but (Chautauqua Lake) was making contact on him. Burgess came in and closed the game up for us."
Also having a good day at the dish was senior Austin Alonge, who kept up his torrid hitting in 2012 with a pair of hits, including a double, and four RBIs.
A nice surprise for Kaltenbach and the Wolverines was the hitting of the bottom of their order, which combined for five hits, three coming from Anthony Leone.
"We were struggling at the bottom of our order and today we had five hits," Kaltenbach said. "That was big for us."
Morrison allowed four runs on five hits while striking out two and walking one, before giving way to Burgess who allowed an unearned run on three hits while striking out four and walking two.
For Chautauqua Lake, Jason McMahon had three hits while Ian Clute went 2 for 4 with a pair of RBIs.

The Eagles (7-3) jumped all over Roy-Hart pitching in the first inning.
Justin Budniewski and Charlie West started it with back-to-back singles. Joslyn drove home Budniewski with a groundout before Tyler Freeman singled home West. Austin Van Slycke and Christ Conley added RBI hits as Lake Shore built a 4-0 lead by the time three outs were recorded.
