Village hailed for safety concerns

May 4, 2012
The OBSERVER

Editor, OBSERVER:

I am writing on behalf of the Fredonia Presbyterian Church to thank the village of Fredonia for their rapid response to our concerns about the driveway off of Forbes that passed alongside the village playground into our parking lot.

The driveway was installed by the village to provide easy access to our parking lot for the parents bringing children to the playground. We have been very glad to provide those parking spaces over the years. When the village installed their own parking area, however, we found that this driveway not only wasn't being used as much, but some of the people using the playground did not notice that it was still an actively used driveway.

As a result, adults and children would stand, and sometimes sit, very close to the road, unaware that some people use our driveway as a convenient, and fast, shortcut from Forbes to Cottage and vice versa.

We deeply appreciate the village trustees understanding our concerns for the safety of the children as well as the difficulty of maintaining the driveway when it was no longer needed. Thanks to all concerned for your faithful response.
