Twenty years ago - 1992
Michele Crowell, 17-year-old daughter of Terrence and Donna Crowell of South Dayton and a senior at Pine Valley High School, is the Student of the Week. Treasurer of her junior and senior class, she also served as secretary of the Student Council. Michelle was named winner of the "Voice of Democracy" contest in 1991 and was named a Congressional Scholar. She will attend St. Bonaventure University following graduation.
Thirty years ago - 1982
Brocton Central School sixth-grader Brian Heyden's poster has been selected to appear in a children's art exhibit on the Concourse of the Empire State Plaza in Albany. The exhibit is entitled, "Spring in My Hometown." Brian, 11, resides with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence McIntyre of Fuller Road, Portland. More than 6,000 students across the state submitted posters, but only 120 were selected for the exhibit.
Forty years ago - 1972
Fred Taschenberg, 9 Forbes Place, Fredonia won angling recognition recently in the Metropolitan Miami Fishing Tournament when he landed a 502-pound tiger shark.
Fifty years ago - 1962
Gerald Dengler, owner of Dengler Chevrolet Inc., East Main Street, Fredonia was a recent winner of an all-expense paid trip for two to Las Vegas in a contest sponsored by the Chevrolet Motor Division.
